Kisiwa Farming Limited is an agri-energy social enterprise that is dedicated to solving the coconut production challenges in East Africa. Through grassroots development, efficient processing, and investment in the region, our multi-product approach aims to make a positive impact on the East African coconut industry. Our name, "Kisiwa," which means "Island" in Swahili, reflects our commitment to the local community and environment.

We recognize the increasing global demand for coconut products, and we strive to meet this demand while addressing key challenges in the industry. In Tanzania, where approximately 300,000 families depend on coconuts in the eastern coastal region, there is limited local value addition due to a lack of knowledge, capital, and expertise. Additionally, the unreliable electricity supply hinders the production of higher-value coconut products.

To overcome these obstacles, we have partnered with Energidrop, a South African renewable energy developer, to establish Kisiwa Farming Limited on Mafia Island. With over 2,700 hectares of coconut plantations, we aim to rejuvenate the industry by ensuring optimal multicrop operations and maximum local beneficiation.

Our mission is to create substantial local value by operating in cooperation with the community and finding a balance between profit, environment, and social responsibility. We believe in taking audacious goals and breaking them down into smaller, manageable steps to promote sustainable growth and lower risks.

At Kisiwa Farming Limited, we understand the importance of utilizing every bit of produce. For every liter of coconut oil produced, we generate over 10 kilograms of residues. By converting these residues into additional products and eventually into energy, we aim to maximize the value of each produce and ensure the return of fortified organic nutrients to the plantation.
