Kitaco Kennels is a New Zealand Chihuahua breeder owned by Dr Tracey Tonkin, BVSc (Hons), a veterinarian with a special interest in canine reproduction. Established in 2015, Kitaco describes its work as preservation breeding, with a focus on producing healthy dogs with strong breed characteristics and sound temperaments. Its breeding approach emphasizes DNA screening, health testing, genetics and reproductive science, prioritizing canine welfare over show results. Kitaco reports recognition as DogzOnline New Zealand Long Coat Chihuahua Best Breeder of the Year from 2021 through 2025, and its dogs have earned championship titles in New Zealand and Australia.
The kennel offers Chihuahua puppies for sale in New Zealand and export worldwide, along with an export service and stud dogs and semen for sale. Its dogs also participate in therapy work, theatre, television, photography, magazine features and other entertainment projects. Kitaco provides information for prospective owners on Chihuahua care, health, breeding and responsible puppy selection, and publishes a care guide as a paperback and eBook through Amazon.
