About Hopp Children's Cancer Center Heidelberg
The Hopp Children’s Tumor Center Heidelberg (KiTZ) is a treatment and research center for children and adolescents with cancer and serious blood diseases. Its work brings clinical care and scientific research together, with the aim of improving treatment and outcomes for young patients. KiTZ treats a broad range of conditions, including leukemia and lymphoma, brain and central nervous system tumors, sarcomas, embryonal and rare tumors, hereditary cancers, and non-malignant blood disorders.
Services include tumor surgery, clinical studies, second opinions, and support for patients experiencing relapse. Families can also access psychosocial care, a hospital school, sibling support, and accommodation for parents. In research, KiTZ investigates cancer biology, diagnostic methods, immunotherapy, and approaches to reduce treatment side effects and long-term consequences. Its vision is to offer each young patient personalized treatment, supported by intensive research and clinical collaboration. The center also provides molecular cancer diagnostics and information for families, and invites individuals and businesses to support its work through donations and other forms of engagement.
