LIR8 is a Czech historical reenactment and research association dedicated to the Imperial-Royal 8th Landwehr (later Rifle) Regiment of Prague and the broader history of Austria-Hungary’s military. Re-established in 2010 by friends drawn together by an interest in military history and Prague’s garrison heritage, the group focuses especially on the regiment’s life in the late nineteenth century. It has more than 30 members from a range of professions, including military and police personnel.

The association preserves and shares the regiment’s story through historical research, photographs, documents, maps, personal records, and information about soldiers, battles, uniforms, equipment, cemeteries, and memorials. Its extensive online archive covers the regiment’s organization, campaigns, losses, and connections to Czech military history, alongside material on other Bohemian Landwehr units. The group also presents its work through events, club activities, and photo galleries documenting its gatherings. By commemorating the experiences and service of the regiment’s soldiers, LIR8 helps restore attention to a significant, often overlooked part of the region’s military past.
