KMF

The Kay Mason Foundation (KMF) is a South African organisation dedicated to helping talented young people from underserved communities access quality education and develop as leaders. Founded in 1999 by Richard Mason in memory of his sister Kay, the foundation selects promising Grade 6 learners, typically aged 11–12, and supports them through high school and beyond. Its approach combines scholarships with holistic support, including mentorship, personal development, workshops and guidance to help scholars build confidence, skills and plans for the future.

KMF aims to turn educational opportunity into lasting impact for scholars, their families and wider communities. Its alumni include professionals in medicine, law and academia, as well as entrepreneurs and people working across the arts and other fields. The foundation reports 600 scholarships awarded and 90 employed alumni. Individuals and organisations can contribute as donors, helping fund the programme and its continued work. Through its community of supporters, KMF invests in young people’s potential and encourages them to give back and help address challenges in their communities.
