Knoop

Knoop is a smart street-lighting solution developed by naymspace GmbH & Co. KG, a software company that creates tailored digital products. Designed for municipalities, Knoop lets residents switch on streetlights through a mobile app when they need them, helping communities reduce energy use, electricity costs, CO₂ emissions, and light pollution.

Residents join their municipality’s Knoop service using an invitation code, and a simple button press sends a signal from the app to the relevant lighting control unit. Lights switch on for a municipality-defined period, turn off automatically afterward, and can be kept on longer through the same app. Administrators can set switching windows and durations, manage users and roles, invite residents using QR codes, and review a chronological history of lighting activity. Technicians and administrators can also operate lights for individually selected durations, while a maintenance mode supports servicing.

Knoop provides a practical way to align public lighting with actual demand. Municipalities can use its savings calculator to estimate potential reductions in energy costs and emissions.
