About Knox-Lincoln
Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District is a community-focused conservation organization serving Maine’s Knox and Lincoln counties. Established in 1947, it helps conserve land and water resources through practical assistance, local action, and education. The district describes itself as a non-regulatory community leader that responds to local natural resource issues.
Its programs serve both adults and K–12 students, alongside technical services and assistance for landowners, farmers, contractors, municipalities, and community groups. Resources cover soil testing, invasive plants and forest pests, conservation practices, woodland and erosion control, and landscapes and gardens suited to Maine. The district also offers a Conservation Landscape Certification program and provides aerial photos and access to soil information for the two counties.
Community events and seasonal sales are another part of its work, including workshops, plant and wildflower seed sales, trout stocking, and bin and barrel sales. Training addresses topics such as stream-crossing design and installation, with attention to water quality, wildlife passage, and flood resilience.
