About Kochi Biennale Foundation
Kochi-Muziris Biennale, founded in 2011, is India's first international biennial of contemporary art, deeply rooted in the country's political, social, and artistic narratives. Established by the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF)—a non-profit trust created by artists for artists—its mission is to foster artistic and cultural education through diverse exhibitions and engagement. The Government of Kerala actively supports KBF in its endeavors.
The Biennale, held every two years in Kochi, aims to invigorate the region with contemporary art and dialogue, while also focusing on the preservation of heritage sites and the revival of traditional art forms. Drawing inspiration from Kerala's rich multicultural history, including influences from Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonialism, as well as various ethnic communities, the KMB attracts attention from art lovers worldwide. Today, Kochi stands as a vibrant cosmopolitan city, serving as the financial hub of Kerala and the perfect backdrop for this celebrated festival of contemporary art.
