About Kohan Reflection Garden
Kohan Reflection Garden is a public garden managed by the Slocan Lake Garden Society in British Columbia’s Slocan Valley. The garden was created to acknowledge and commemorate the Japanese Canadian community as an integral part of local life and to pay tribute to the community affected by internment. It also welcomes residents and visitors to experience a thoughtfully maintained horticultural space.
Described as a living work of art, the garden offers opportunities for reflection, horticultural education, bird-watching and photography. Its setting is also available for weddings, memorials, art and cultural events, and yoga classes. Visitors can explore information about the garden’s history and design, its natural features, and the shoreline and beach area.
The Society supports the garden’s long-term sustainability and ongoing upkeep through community involvement and donations. Support options include the Legacy Fund, Peony Fund, tribute gifts, and adopting a pond. The organization also offers volunteer opportunities and hosts events, including art and cultural programming. Through these activities, Kohan Reflection Garden combines remembrance, public enjoyment, education and community connection.
