Kolibre is a non-profit association based in Finland that focuses on promoting information systems as tools for individuals with print disabilities. Their mission is to develop and research information systems aimed at assisting these individuals, while also supporting and administering the community associated with these projects. Kolibre distributes results, source code, and related materials under an open-source license.

The vision of Kolibre is to provide all individuals in need of custom solutions with access to talking publications featuring a natural voice, regardless of their location. They aim to achieve this vision by creating a customized receiver that can be used on various devices such as smartphones, computers, e-readers, or specialized players for the visually impaired. Kolibre welcomes organizations and individuals to become full or supporting members.

Full members have voting rights at the annual meeting, with a yearly fee of 550 euros for organizations and 150 euros for individuals. Supporting members, on the other hand, can participate in the annual meeting but do not have voting rights, with a yearly fee of 200 euros for organizations and 50 euros for individuals. Kolibre cooperates with various organizations such as COSS, the Finnish Centre for Open Systems and Solutions, and The Finnish DAISY Consortium.

They also collaborate with Celia, the national special library, and The Federation of the Visually Impaired in Finland. The Kolibre board, consisting of representatives with diverse expertise, is focused on developing innovative solutions to meet the needs of the visually impaired. They aim to create a community of developers around the open-source codebase.

The current board is elected every two years and includes members from different organizations such as FSS, Pratsam Ab, and NÖSS. Kolibre's history dates back to 2002 when software development began in collaboration with Norra Österbottens Svenska Synskadade rf (NÖSS) to modernize the daily talking newspaper. Since then, several projects have been undertaken with partners like Pratsam Ab to improve and further develop software for various needs.

The name Kolibre is a wordplay on kolibri, the Swedish word for hummingbird, which is a symbol for reading aloud. The logo features a hummingbird reading/singing from a papyrus roll and represents their commitment to providing accessible reading materials. Overall, Kolibre is dedicated to creating inclusive information systems and supporting individuals with print disabilities through their projects, membership options, and collaborations with various organizations
