Koloa Plantation Days is an annual ten-day festival held in July on Kauai's south shore. This vibrant event celebrates the rich history and cultural traditions of the diverse ethnic groups that came to Hawaii to work on sugar plantations. Through music, dance, costumes, and food, visitors can immerse themselves in the vibrant tapestry of these cultures.
The festival takes place in the area where Hawaii's first sugar plantation was established in 1835, adding a historical backdrop to the festivities. Attendees can enjoy a wide range of events, including sports activities, entertainment at luxurious resorts, craft fairs, culinary demonstrations, and tasting events. Most of these exciting events are held outdoors and are free of charge.
Koloa Plantation Days also pays tribute to the immigrants who contributed their traditions, music, dances, and foods to Hawaii's melting pot. The festival showcases Hawaiian culture and history through nature walks, talk stories, and experiences that highlight the unique flora, fauna, geology, and archaeology of the south shore. Furthermore, the festival celebrates the present-day vitality of Koloa and Poipu, inviting visitors and residents to enjoy guided walks, talk stories, outdoor sports, live music, golf, and tennis.
The festival is made possible by the support and contributions of community organizations, businesses, resorts, and residents, as well as the sponsorship of the Hawaii Tourism Authority. For a detailed schedule of events, brochures, and more information, please contact Koloa Plantation Days through email or regular mail. Join us in celebrating the rich heritage and vibrant present of Kauai's south shore at Koloa Plantation Days!
