Kombat Karate is a family-operated dojo on East 7th Street in Long Beach, California, offering traditional Japanese Shotokan karate and practical self-defense instruction. Led by Sensei Ryan and Senpai Nancy, the academy emphasizes personal coaching, respect, discipline, confidence, and progress both on and off the mat. Its teaching is rooted in a fourth-generation Shotokan lineage associated with Sensei James Yabe; Sensei Ryan is certified by Yabe. Classes are kept small to support individual feedback and tailored belt progression, while maintaining traditional training standards.
Programs are organized by age and experience: Kids Karate for ages 4–6, Kadets for ages 7–11, Teens for ages 12 and older, and Adult Karate for adults. Training includes foundational techniques, kata, kumite, and self-defense, with age-appropriate instruction for children, teens, and adults. Kombat Karate is affiliated with Claycomb Karate Academy in Fontana, extending its karate community and training opportunities. Prospective students can try three classes for $30. The dojo is located at 1342 E.
