Based in Kigali, Rwanda's capital city, KomezArt derives its name from the Kinyarwanda word 'Komeza', meaning 'to continue' or 'to strengthen' something. The concept for KomezArt was born during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, when traditional art galleries were closed, halting the sale of artworks for Rwanda's artist community. KomezArt strives to create sustainable opportunities for artists to sell their work in Rwanda and beyond, aiming to increase demand for and consumption of African artwork.
