The International Shakuhachi Society is a renowned organization dedicated to the Japanese Zen bamboo flute, its musicians, and the music it produces. Established in 1990, the society aims to bridge cultural and traditional divides by fostering a community of players, teachers, composers, and enthusiasts. Their website serves as a comprehensive resource for those interested in traditional Japanese instruments like the shakuhachi, koto, and shamisen.
Explore the history and traditions of these instruments, discover Zen and classical pieces, and delve into the legacy of the Komusō monks. Members gain access to specialized tools for managing their music collection, communicating with fellow players, and more. While the Society does not sell any products, they provide invaluable archives dating back over a century for research purposes.
Join the International Shakuhachi Society and immerse yourself in the rich heritage of Japanese music and culture
