About KP
The Kimberley Process Civil Society Coalition is the umbrella organization that serves as an observer of the Kimberley Process on behalf of civil society. Together with the World Diamond Council, they ensure that responsible practices are followed in the diamond industry. The coalition consists of members primarily from Africa, the main continent for diamond production.
These members represent communities affected by diamond mining and trade, working towards improving governance in their respective countries. With expertise at the local and regional level, they monitor the implementation of the Kimberley Process on the ground and advocate for a grassroots perspective in the diamond sector. Coalition representatives come from countries such as Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, and Belgium.
They collaborate with organizations like Groupe de Recherche et de Plaidoyer sur les Industries Extractives, Centre Centrafricain de Recherche et d’Analyse Géopolitique, Center for Natural Resource Governance, and others to promote sustainable development and community rights in the diamond industry.
