About KPEC
KPEC, the Khyber Pass Economic Corridor, is a brand that connects Pakistan and Afghanistan with Central Asia through the historical Khyber Pass. It is an initiative under the CAREC program, aiming to enhance cross-border trade, improve livelihoods, and elevate communities. KPEC offers a 48-kilometer, 4-lane expressway known as the Peshawar-Torkham expressway (PTEX), representing sections of Corridors 5 and 6 of the CAREC regional connectivity initiatives.
This expressway will significantly reduce travel time for heavy trucks, resulting in savings in vehicle operating costs. Additionally, KPEC will create an estimated 60,000-100,000 new job opportunities, with a focus on empowering women. Moreover, KPEC aims to improve the business environment for nearly 70 million people and strengthen trade between Pakistan and the Central Asian Republics, with an expected annual potential of $1.
