About KPFT
90. 1 FM KPFT Houston is a community radio station that has been serving the Houston area for over 50 years. Our mission is to provide a platform for diverse voices and perspectives that might otherwise be overlooked by mainstream media.
Founded by Larry Lee from the Associated Press and Don Gardner from the Houston Post, KPFT was established out of a desire to address the gaps in local coverage and champion free speech. We joined a network of educational and community radio stations across America, paving the way for a new era of radio broadcasting. Since our first broadcast on March 1, 1970, we have been dedicated to engaging and enlightening our audience with a unique blend of music, news, and cultural programming.
We offer a diverse range of shows on HD1 FM, with live playlists and a schedule that caters to a wide variety of tastes. In addition, our HD2 internet radio station provides even more content, with its own live playlists and schedule. We also have an extensive archive of past shows available for streaming.
As a community station, KPFT relies on the support of our listeners and sponsors. You can show your support by becoming a station sponsor, donating through PayPal or Cash App, or even donating your car. Tune in to 90.
