Kristiansand Karate Club (KKC) is a karate club founded by Gunnar Nordahl in 1971. Recognised as the oldest karate club in the Sørlandet region of Norway, KKC continues a long-standing tradition of martial arts training. The club practises Shorin-ryu at its facilities in IDDA Arena, with training sessions held two to three times a week. Its guiding values are courtesy, patience and willingness to work.
Karate training at KKC develops physical abilities such as strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and spatial awareness, while also supporting self-discipline and greater understanding of the body. Sessions cover basic techniques—including stances, punches, kicks and blocks—as well as kata, choreographed sequences that represent an imagined fight, and kumite, or free sparring between two people.
Members can pursue karate as a form of exercise, take part in kata and kumite competitions, or learn skills for self-defence. People interested in joining or learning more are invited to contact the club or visit a training session. KKC can be reached by email and on Facebook.
