Kubotan Karate Kai is a family-run, full-time karate academy based in Pontarddulais, serving students in the surrounding area, including Llanelli. The club teaches traditional Wado-Ryu karate, a style whose name means “Way of Peace,” and describes its premises as the area’s only purpose-built karate academy. It is a founding member of the Wales Karate Association, which is affiliated with the Welsh Karate Governing Body and, through it, the British, European and World Karate Federations.

Instruction is led by Jason Hayward, who began karate in 1980 and has competed nationally and internationally, earning numerous titles. Students can take part in regular training and prepare for gradings, which are generally held in March, July and November. Preparation courses are offered ahead of gradings, and instructors put forward students they consider physically and mentally ready. The club also lists events such as courses, tournaments and squad training, with dates published on its calendar. Its website provides information about instructors, club times, karate history, results and testimonials, alongside video updates and social media links.
