Külső Magyarok

Külső Magyarok is a Hungarian research and media organization focused on the history, culture, and present-day experiences of Hungarian communities across the Carpathian Basin and beyond. Through its projects, it explores overlooked regions, endangered minority communities, historical memory, and the ways migration, assimilation, and social change shape collective identity. Its work combines research with storytelling and public engagement, helping audiences rediscover places and histories that are often absent from mainstream accounts.

The organization’s offerings include articles, podcasts, short films, books, exhibitions, and field projects. Topics range from Hungarian prisoners of war in the First World War and the documentation of battlefields and military cemeteries to the histories of scattered communities in North Africa, Anatolia, and Central Asia. Its Magna Hungaria podcast examines history, borderlands, and contemporary questions affecting Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin. Films and exhibitions bring these subjects to wider audiences, while research initiatives document vulnerable communities and challenge historical neglect and distortion. Külső Magyarok presents history as a living connection between people, places, and their broader homeland.
