Kunstfonds is a renowned brand that has been dedicated to supporting artistic practice in Germany and promoting contemporary visual art for over 40 years. They offer various services and products to foster the dissemination and appreciation of art throughout the country. Kunstfonds provides scholarships and project grants to artists, supports exhibitions and publications, and preserves the lifetime achievements of artists.

Their philosophy revolves around promoting and maintaining artistic quality. As part of NEUSTART KULTUR, the German government's rescue and future support package for cultural life, Kunstfonds is making a significant contribution to supporting the art scene during the coronavirus pandemic. It awards up to 2 million euros annually within its regular funding programs.

It's important to note that eligible artists and subsidized institutions must be based in Germany. Kunstfonds operates as an autonomous funding institution with artists' associations on the Foundation Board. The Foundation Board makes democratic decisions on all fundamental questions, including appointments to the various committees and award juries.

Visual artists have a majority representation in these committees, but other stakeholders, such as gallery owners and museum representatives, are also involved. Kunstfonds also places a strong emphasis on preserving artistic heritage. Their successful Artists' Archive serves as a model project, collecting contemporary artistic works, facilitating restoration and research, and ensuring the visibility of the artworks through loans to museums and exhibition projects.

Additionally, Kunstfonds promotes the creation of catalogues raisonnés, which document and preserve artistic works for long-term research and reflection. Their main partner is the German government, which provides annual funding. Kunstfonds also receives support from the Stiftung Kulturwerk of VG Bild-Kunst.
