The Department of Polymer Engineering at Montanuniversität Leoben is a research and education centre with more than 50 years of experience and international recognition as a partner for industry and research. Its five institutes bring expertise together across polymer science, covering the full materials lifecycle, from production and processing to application and recycling. Research areas include sustainable and smart polymers, digital polymer science, materials testing, polymer chemistry, composite processing and design for recycling.

The department offers an academic programme in polymer technology, combining scientific study with practical training to prepare students for professional careers. It also provides opportunities for research collaboration and knowledge exchange with industry and academic partners. Conferences, workshops, lectures and other events connect researchers, students and professionals, including the annual Leoben Conference on Polymer Engineering and Science.
