Frustrated by the lack of contemporary art galleries and institutional support for emerging Mexican artists, the founders sought to create a nomadic gallery that could adapt to different spaces and provide a platform for experimental projects. From their first exhibition in a rented market booth, kurimanzutto has pushed the boundaries of traditional gallery spaces, organizing shows in unconventional locations such as bumper car parks, supermarket parking lots, and even their own apartment. This flexibility has allowed the gallery to foster collaborations, hosting international artists and curators to facilitate a dynamic exchange of ideas.

In addition to their main space in Mexico City, kurimanzutto opened a project space in New York City in 2018, further expanding their global reach. Their commitment to supporting risky and innovative projects has made kurimanzutto a leading force in the art world, with a roster of 38 Mexican and international artists.
