About Rohingya Photography Competition
The Rohingya Photography Competition (RPC) is a significant cultural initiative founded by Shafiur Rahman in 2020, during the challenging times of the COVID-19 lockdown in Bangladesh. This competition aims to amplify the voices and experiences of Rohingya refugees by encouraging them to capture their everyday lives through photography. RPC has facilitated a platform for Rohingya photographers to showcase their work, highlighting their resilience and creativity amid adversity.
The competition has garnered international attention, featuring numerous exhibitions and articles that document the plight and stories of the Rohingya community. Events have included exhibitions in prestigious venues such as Manchester Museum and Ca' Foscari University in Venice, where photographers presented their narratives and insights into camp life.
Through workshops, exhibitions, and partnerships, RPC not only empowers individuals within the Rohingya community to express their stories but also raises awareness about their ongoing struggles, making it a vital contribution to both human rights advocacy and artistic representation.
