Stichting KVW De Meern is a volunteer-led organization that has brought a week of holiday activities to primary-school children from De Meern, in the Municipality of Utrecht, since 1969. Held annually during the final week of the school holidays, KinderVakantieWeek offers children opportunities to play outdoors, enjoy a holiday atmosphere and ease back into a routine through shared adventures.
The 2026 edition runs from 24 to 28 August and takes children on a prehistoric journey with the theme “Cave Dwellers.” The programme includes games, sports, activities and themed adventures such as treasure hunts, campfires and creative challenges. Places are limited to 350 children. Participation for the full week costs €40 per child, plus a €1.29 administration fee; registration is scheduled to open on 11 May 2026.
KVW De Meern also invites people to volunteer and businesses or individuals to become sponsors or make donations. The event is supported by sponsors and a large volunteer team, and its Friday programme includes a community fair open to parents.
