The Kentucky Genealogical Society is a membership organization for people interested in discovering, studying, and sharing Kentucky family history. Its community includes more than 1,500 members, many living beyond Kentucky, who connect with others researching the state’s people and places. The society supports genealogists at every experience level, from beginners to seasoned researchers, with educational resources, opportunities to learn, and ways to exchange knowledge.

Its offerings include Kentucky Research Roadtrips, virtual member events, Front Porch Talks, a learning library, and beginner guides, forms, and templates for family research. Members can explore programs such as the Kentucky Spirits Lineage Program and learn about Kentucky records through digitization initiatives and grants. The society also publishes Bluegrass Roots, an online magazine featuring articles on Kentucky history, genealogy, research tips, and family discoveries. Visitors can find news, event information, and guidance for getting started, while members can participate through volunteering, speaking, writing, or supporting the mission. The Kentucky Genealogical Society helps people make meaningful connections with their Kentucky ancestors and heritage.
