About 京都古書研究会
Kyoto Koshokenkyukai, or the Kyoto Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association, is an organization dedicated to sharing the appeal of used and antiquarian books across generations. Its activities include organizing Kyoto’s three major used-book fairs, holding book-sale events, publishing catalogues of antiquarian books, and promoting appreciation of the field. The association brings together member bookshops in Kyoto, with a directory and map to help visitors find them.
Its events calendar features fairs throughout the year, including the autumn used-book fair at Hyakumanben Chion-ji Temple. The association also publishes “Kyō Kōhonya Ōrai,” its periodical, which began in the year the group was founded. More than 100 issues have been produced, and back issues are available on the association’s website. Visitors can also read current updates and articles about member shops and book fairs. To mark its 50th anniversary, the association offers commemorative goods featuring illustrations by Nagakawa Nobu, whose artwork has long appeared in materials for its used-book fairs.
