About Kystmuseet Norveg
Kystmuseet Norveg is a coastal museum in Rørvik, Trøndelag, dedicated to preserving and sharing the region’s coastal culture and fishing history. Part of Museet Midt, it invites visitors to explore the Namdal coast’s 10,000-year story through exhibitions, collections and historic sites. The museum is one of Norway’s largest open-air museums, with 42 buildings where visitors can encounter history in authentic coastal settings. Its collection also includes around 50 working boats, primarily Nordland-type boats.
At the Norveg centre for coastal culture and industry, visitors can discover exhibitions and learn about life and work along the coast. The museum’s sites include Berggården, the Rørvik Telegraph Museum, the wharves and the historic fishing village of Sør-Gjæslingan. Sør-Gjæslingan offers day trips and accommodation, providing an opportunity to experience its distinctive maritime heritage and natural surroundings. Visitors can also explore the museum’s digital collection, featuring more than 3,500 photographs and 1,500 objects. Kystmuseet Norveg offers museum visits, historical experiences and coastal destinations for people interested in local heritage.
