Lacerda is a brand that is deeply rooted in history and heritage. Our story began with a Spanish prince who was usurped from the throne of the Kingdom of Castile, traversed through Portugal, and eventually explored Brazil. This captivating saga has spanned generations, and we proudly identify ourselves as Lacerdas.
Starting from Recife, Brazil, also known as the Venice of Brazil, our family has spread its branches to different parts of the world. Our website serves as a platform to celebrate our ancestry, focusing on our grandparents, José Lacerda Leite Filho and Hocília Lacerda Leite, who symbolize our reference point. Throughout our journey, we have witnessed the profound influences and important contributions made by the Fernandes, Leite, and Pessoa families in shaping who we are today.
Our family's history encompasses the states of Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte, and Pernambuco, highlighting the vibrant culture and rich heritage of Northeastern Brazil. As we step into the 21st century, the Lacerda family has expanded its presence beyond Brazil, especially in the United States. This new chapter will be carried forward by future generations, marking the continuation of our eternal journey.
The Lacerda surname originated from the Spanish La Cerda, which translates to the bristle. Historical records trace its roots back to King Alfonso X The Wise and D. Violante de Aragão, whose eldest son, Fernando de La Cerda, gained his nickname due to the thick volume of hair on his chest.
January 24th holds significant importance for both the La Cerda and Lacerda families, as it marks the birth of Prince D. Fernando, the first to bear the surname La Cerda in 1256. Embracing our heritage, the Lacerda family proudly displays a coat of arms featuring a split shield.
The first section showcases a golden castle on a red background, while the second section exhibits a purple lion on a silver background adorned with golden fleurs-de-lis. Join us on our historical journey as we continue to honor our past, celebrate our present, and shape our future.
