Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts is a public agency dedicated to transforming waste into valuable resources such as recycled water, energy, and recycled materials. Serving approximately 5. 5 million residents across 78 cities and unincorporated areas in Los Angeles County, this agency consists of 24 independent special districts.

With a focus on efficiency and cost reduction, the Sanitation Districts work collaboratively and share administrative costs. Since 1923, they have been responsible for constructing, operating, and maintaining facilities for collecting and treating both domestic and industrial wastewater. Their regional wastewater collection system covers about 1,400 miles and treats roughly half of the wastewater in the county.

In addition, they manage solid waste through two sanitary landfills and three materials recovery/transfer facilities. The agency is also a pioneer in green energy production, generating approximately 67 megawatts of electricity from wastewater and solid waste operations. With their water reclamation plants producing 100 million gallons of recycled water per day, Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts are leaders in water recycling, benefiting various sectors including groundwater replenishment, irrigation, agriculture, and industrial water supply.
