Ladera Surf Lessons is a Southern California surf school led by instructor Dan Fennell, serving students of all ages, shapes, and abilities. Based in Ladera Ranch, Dan brings decades of surfing experience and a long background in teaching, sharing skills passed down through his own family and years in the water. Lessons combine practical instruction with a focus on helping students feel comfortable and confident in the ocean.
Each session begins with beach basics and ocean safety, covering sand, waves, swell, currents, wind, and ocean etiquette before students enter the water. Instruction includes proper paddling, popping up, selecting waves, choosing where to sit, and deciding when and which direction to surf. Students can also learn techniques such as turning, walking the nose, pulling into waves, and hitting the lip.
Ladera offers hourly lessons for individuals and groups of two, as well as a three-lesson package. Programs cover the same core skills, with pricing varying by group size and package.
