About La Galerie Paris 1839
La Galerie is a renowned art brand that represents both internationally recognized fine art photography masterpieces and a diverse collection of works by emerging artists. With a deep understanding and sensitive approach to art, La Galerie curates its collections with passion and high standards, encompassing prints, mixed media, street art, and sculpture. The brand has established itself as a pivotal point where Western and local art scenes intersect.
La Galerie's mission is to observe and present Hong Kong with a modern perspective, featuring artists such as Camille Levert, Cyril Delettre, Catherine Henriette, and Anat Givon. These artists encapsulate the collision and integration of East and West cultures in Hong Kong. The brand values and showcases local talents, from established artists like Almond Chu to emerging young artists like Giraffe Leung.
La Galerie also represents the Asian art scene with artists such as Zeng Nian, Zhang Kechun, and Chow Ching-Hui. Drawing on its French background, La Galerie brings not only photography but also other forms of art from Europe to different parts of the world. Their collection includes contemporary landscape expressions with ink by Nicolas Lefeuvre, geometric acrylic patterns by Okuda San Miguel, and etching prints by the fine art master, Pablo Picasso.
The founders of La Galerie, Marie-Florence Gros, and Cyril Delettre share a passion for art, particularly photography. They have successfully combined their skills and creative minds to bring various artistic projects to life, including text and photography exhibitions, as well as short films. Captivated by the energy that drives Hong Kong, they decided to open La Galerie, Paris, 1839, right in the heart of the Asian art scene.
The choice of Paris, 1839 as the name holds significance. In 1839, photography emerged as a cultural medium when the French government introduced Daguerre's patent to the world. It took a century for photography to be recognized as an art form, with institutions like the Metropolitan Museum of Art establishing dedicated curatorial departments for photography in the 1990s.
Today, photography is celebrated and displayed in museums worldwide, with the market for photography experiencing exponential growth in recent years. La Galerie held its first exhibition in Hong Kong in 2014, featuring the works of Vincent Fournier, whose art garnered global attention and was eventually included in the MET's collection. La Galerie aims to be at the forefront of promoting high standard art photography and prints in Hong Kong.
Located in Central, Hong Kong, La Galerie welcomes art enthusiasts to visit its gallery on G/F, 74 Hollywood Road, from Tuesday to Saturday, between 11 am and 7 pm. Stay connected with La Galerie by subscribing to their newsletter to receive the latest news and updates
