Glue and Hive Metastore are widely used for storing metadata related to Hive, Spark, Trino, and other services. They provide crucial information about table locations, column details, and partitions. With lakeFS, the process of querying data remains unchanged.
However, it introduces the concept of branches, enabling efficient data management. For instance, when creating a table in Glue/Hive Metastore, lakeFS allows you to specify the table location. If you create a new branch, the data from the original location becomes accessible in the branch location.
The metadata, however, is not managed in lakeFS. To address this, lakeFS offers the lakectl metastore commands. These commands, available for both Glue and Hive Metastore, provide functionalities such as copying tables, differentiating between tables, and creating symbolic links.
You can also create a schema for each branch, allowing you to use the same table name across different branches. Overall, lakeFS with Glue/Hive Metastore integration simplifies data management, ensuring efficiency and ease of use in querying and manipulating data
