La Matriz Birth

La Matriz Birth is a San Diego midwifery practice led by Tema Mercado and her team, supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Rooted in the Partera lineage of Mexico and informed by contemporary midwifery, the practice brings traditional wisdom together with clinical expertise. Its relationship-based, bilingual care honors bodily autonomy, informed choice, and each family’s lived experience, with services offered in Spanish and English.

La Matriz Birth provides out-of-hospital midwife care, including homebirth, prenatal care, and postpartum support. Its broader offerings include trauma-informed pelvic care, trauma resolution, and somatic therapy, as well as workshops and courses designed to educate and empower families and professionals. The practice describes its approach as gentle, restorative, and grounded in connection, creating a nurturing space for clients throughout their journey.
