Latin American Maritime Law Studies (LAMLS) is a platform for studying, publishing, and discussing maritime law from a Latin American perspective. Founded by maritime lawyer, author, and speaker Roberto Arriola García, it explores the connections between maritime law, ocean governance, geopolitics, state capacity, and maritime strategy, with an international outlook. LAMLS brings this work to readers through books, research, conferences, and a developing series of key concepts on the maritime dimension.
Its publications include works on Mexico’s maritime law, Uruguay’s maritime law and public policy, merchant shipping in North America, and the theory of the Maritime State. The site also shares summaries in multiple languages for selected publications and concepts. LAMLS provides a weekly maritime affairs update that highlights developments from primary sources, distinguishing reported facts from editorial analysis and ongoing projects.
Through its publications, conceptual resources, and professional activities, the platform encourages informed dialogue about the ocean’s place in law, institutions, society, and regional policy
