About Lancaster MOAH
The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) is a vibrant cultural institution located in the Antelope Valley, dedicated to fostering awareness, accessibility, and appreciation for art, history, and culture. With its dynamic exhibitions, innovative educational programs, and creative community engagement, MOAH aims to enrich the lives of residents and visitors alike. Established in 1986, MOAH operates four sites within the City of Lancaster, serving both the Antelope Valley and greater Los Angeles County regions.
The primary exhibition space, MOAH, showcases large-scale curatorial initiatives that celebrate the historic traditions and artistic revolutions of Southern California. The museum houses an impressive collection of over 10,000 artworks and artifacts, and actively produces community-oriented programming to engage diverse audiences. MOAH:CEDAR, located at the Cedar Center for the Arts campus, features additional gallery spaces that spotlight emerging and experimental artists, host the museum's artist-in-residence program, and offer engaging programs for youth and young adults.
The Western Hotel Museum and the Elyze Clifford Interpretive Center provide visitors with a deeper understanding of the rich indigenous, ecological, natural, and economic histories of the Antelope Valley. MOAH's mission revolves around learning, integrating art and history into the lives of the community. The museum offers diverse exhibition programs for all age groups, ranging from displays of locally collected dinosaur fossils, native artifacts, and collectible toys, to presentations on major California artists and topics like sustainable energy and the history of the surfboard.
Additionally, the museum hosts annual juried art exhibitions and showcases works by regional, national, and international renowned artists. The Lancaster Museum of Art and History recognizes and acknowledges the original inhabitants of the Antelope Valley, honoring their history and ongoing preservation efforts. Visitors can explore MOAH's exhibits at their main location on Lancaster Blvd, open Tuesday to Sunday, or at MOAH:CEDAR, open Thursday to Sunday.
