About Land and Equity Movement in Uganda
Land and Equity Movement in Uganda (LEMU) is a Ugandan Non-Governmental Organisation that has been working since 2003 to uphold and secure land rights for the most vulnerable people in Uganda. LEMU focuses on defending customary land tenure, which means establishing and protecting land rights based on community acceptance. Through their work, LEMU has successfully collaborated with various communities to document their rules for managing communal land.
Additionally, LEMU actively promotes responsible investment in land by strengthening the capacities of key stakeholders. They aim to improve investment practices and ensure that land investments benefit the local communities. LEMU also advocates for women's land rights under customary tenure, as this area of land ownership is often misunderstood and lacks adequate safeguards for women.
As a brand, LEMU is dedicated to creating a Ugandan society with secure land tenure and equitable land rights for all, fostering equitable development. Their mission is to uphold and secure land rights for the well-being of the most vulnerable individuals in Uganda.
