About Landmarks Association of Saint Louis
Landmarks Association of St. Louis, Inc. Louis' architectural heritage.
With a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1958, Landmarks has been instrumental in the conservation and adaptive reuse of historically and architecturally significant buildings in the region. Throughout the years, Landmarks has achieved numerous victories in preservation, including the Bissell Mansion, Red Water Tower, Chatillon-DeMenil House, Wainwright Building, and Old Post Office. The organization has also played a pivotal role in identifying important sites and potential historic districts through comprehensive citywide surveys.
Furthermore, Landmarks has been instrumental in the successful implementation of historic tax credits, which have resulted in the renovation and transformation of iconic properties such as the Drury Plaza Hotel, Westin Hotel, and Sheraton St. Louis City Center. In addition to its preservation efforts, Landmarks offers a range of services and programs.
These include educational initiatives like the What Are Buildings Made Of? (WABMO) program, which introduces the built environment to students of all ages. The organization also produces publications like their bi-monthly newsletter and guidebooks that provide essential background information on St. Louis' landmarks and historic districts.
