Lantmäteriet

Lantmäteriet is Sweden’s national mapping and land-registration authority, responsible for documenting the country’s geography, defining property boundaries, and recording property ownership. It operates under the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Infrastructure and provides information and services for individuals, businesses, public bodies, and educators.

Its offerings include maps, aerial imagery, and geodata covering locations throughout Sweden. The Min karta service lets users explore current maps and aerial images on mobile devices, while Lantmäteriet also provides information about properties, ownership, land registration, easements, and shared facilities. Property owners can apply to divide, alter, or merge properties, with the time and cost depending on the investigation required. The authority also handles requests for public records and provides digital services and forms.

Lantmäteriet’s geodata supports practical applications ranging from planning and innovation to emergency preparedness and search-and-rescue efforts. For teachers, its free Geoskolan resources include lesson ideas and an online mapping tool using data from Lantmäteriet and other public agencies. The organisation also offers selected geodata products at no cost.
