About Large Model Association
The Large Model Association (LMA) was established in the UK in 1982 with the aim of uniting enthusiasts interested in flying large model aircraft and ensuring the preservation of these impressive models. Over the years, the definition of 'large' has evolved from models over 5kg to those over 25kg, up to 150kg today. Despite its name, the LMA welcomes model aircraft of all sizes, including drones.
The association boasts over 1000 members worldwide, engaging in various activities like public displays, regulatory advocacy with government bodies such as the CAA, and participation in international aviation forums. The LMA facilitates schemes like the Over 25kg scheme in collaboration with the UK CAA, enabling legal flying for larger models, along with proficiency tests for pilots. With a focus on fostering a community of passionate model aircraft enthusiasts, the LMA organizes fly-ins and events for members to share knowledge and enjoy the hobby together.
