About Larry Lewis Art
Larry Lewis Painting is a brand that specializes in the extraordinary art of collages. Larry Lewis, born in Norwalk, CT, in 1919, dedicated his life to creating unique and mesmerizing collage books. Although largely self-taught, he exhibited his work in renowned galleries such as Ward Eggleston Gallery in New York City and Vanderlyn Art Gallery in Mount Vernon, NY.
However, it wasn't until the late 1960s that he truly found his passion for collage. Larry's collages are meticulously crafted by hand. He uses brilliantly colored pages of ledger books and combines them with photocopies of Victorian ephemera, vintage movie star images, and newspaper ads.
Each page and spread is a work of art in itself, carefully composed and painted. Larry's niece and heir to his art, Sharyn Prentiss Laughton, reveals that he never finished any of his books. Instead, he worked on them randomly, creating a sense of spontaneity and intrigue.
The discovery of Larry's art after his passing led Sharyn and her friend, artist Lina Morielli, on a journey to exhibit and share his remarkable work with the world.
