Lasai

Lasai is a contemporary restaurant in Rio de Janeiro, led by chef Rafa Costa e Silva and his wife, Malena Cardiel. Its name means “tranquil” in Euskera, the Basque language, reflecting the chef’s formative time in the Basque Country before returning to Brazil. Set in an old carioca house, the restaurant pairs a modern, welcoming and informal atmosphere with polished, understated service that keeps the food at the center of the experience.

Lasai’s cuisine combines modern techniques with Brazilian ingredients, especially vegetables and herbs grown in its own gardens in Itanhangá and Vale das Videiras, as well as produce from small Rio-area farmers and organic markets. The menu also features fresh seafood and carefully selected meats. Changing harvests inspire new dishes and seasonal menus. Guests are offered a single tasting menu, designed to showcase a wide range of ingredients from the gardens, the sea and the land. Lasai serves guests by reservation only.
