Laser Fusion Energy Europe, through the HiPER+ initiative, is a European research collaboration focused on advancing inertial fusion energy. Its central project, the conceptual design of a European High Power Laser Fusion Research Facility (HiPER+RF), is intended to prepare a next-generation facility for research into direct-drive inertial confinement fusion. EUROfusion allocated €2.7 million to the project, with a similar contribution from participating nations; Dimitri Batani of the University of Bordeaux is its principal investigator.

HiPER+ brings together scientific expertise across facility design, experiments, laser technology, targets and materials, diagnostics, fusion physics, and community development. The initiative builds on the legacy of the earlier HiPER project and aims to strengthen the scientific foundations for a future European direct-laser-fusion facility and high-gain fusion research. Its website shares project presentations, documents, work-package information, and research updates, and promotes conferences, workshops, schools, and other events for the fusion community. By coordinating European researchers and developing a facility concept, HiPER+ supports investigation of laser-driven fusion as a potential route toward sustainable energy.
