Lastenkirjainstituutti, or the Finnish Institute for Children’s Literature, is a national centre dedicated to promoting and sharing knowledge about children’s and young adult literature and children’s book art. Its specialist library serves professionals, enthusiasts and media seeking information about the field. The collection includes children’s and young adult books, research literature, primers, magazines and special collections, with resources available through the Onnet database and other bibliographic services.

The Institute supports readers and industry professionals through expert services, research resources, statistics, seminars, lectures and training. It also develops projects and learning materials for teachers and early childhood educators, and provides guidance for publishers and other sector organisations. Exhibitions, events and public programmes introduce children’s literature and illustration to both professional audiences and families.

Its publications include Onnimanni magazine, which features news and reviews, alongside other books and materials. The Institute also operates Lukemo, a portal presenting new children’s and young adult books. Its shop offers cards, posters and literature, while membership provides a way to support its work.
