Lastenkoti

Lastenkoti Kotirauha is a nonprofit children’s home in Heinola, Finland, operated by the Kotirauha Foundation since 1939. It provides homelike, basic-level residential care for children and young people aged 2 to 18 who do not have substance-use or violence-related challenges. The home emphasizes a calm, safe daily routine, individual support, personal space and stable relationships with trusted adults. Children are encouraged to take part in school, hobbies, outdoor activities and shared life at the home, with their wishes considered in planning everyday routines and goals.

Kotirauha works in partnership with children’s guardians, relatives, social workers and other professionals. Support may include family work, Lapset puheeksi® discussions, SILTA® work, DDP and a trauma-informed approach. A family-support apartment enables children and their loved ones to spend time together, including overnight visits. The home also offers aftercare and agreed support visits. Its surroundings and facilities, including a lakeside sauna, barbecue shelter, boat and canoes, create opportunities for outdoor recreation and shared activities. All proceeds are returned to the home’s operations.
