Lastensuojeluyksikö Silmu

Lastensuojeluyksikkö Silmu is a child welfare residential unit operated by Kokkolan Lastensuojelupalvelut Oy in Kokkola, Finland. It provides a safe, homelike, around-the-clock residence for up to seven children and young people aged over 10 who are placed in care or through open-care support. Located in the peaceful Hakalahti neighbourhood, the unit offers each resident a private room and easy access to schools, vocational education and nearby outdoor and recreation areas.

Silmu’s approach centres on predictable, adult-led daily life, stable relationships and support tailored to each young person. Every resident has a designated instructor who helps plan individual support and maintain everyday routines. Staff work in partnership with families, social services, schools and other relevant professionals to build a consistent support network. The trained team also supports young people’s interests and personal development. For those leaving the unit, Silmu offers aftercare to help with the transition to independent living, including guidance with daily skills, healthy habits, job seeking and practical matters.
