Galerie Sébastien Meunier, also known as La Tapisserie du XXe siècle, specialises in the purchase and sale of modern tapestries. The gallery focuses on twentieth-century works, celebrating the revival of tapestry as a decorative art shaped by both figurative and abstract artists. Its collections include works associated with artists such as Jean Lurçat, Saint-Saëns, Fernand Léger, Dom Robert, Mathieu Matégot and Alexander Calder, reflecting the range of styles and vivid colours that define the period.
The gallery presents a broad selection of tapestries, most of which were handwoven in Aubusson using a low-warp loom. According to the site, these pieces were published in editions of no more than eight, making them rare and difficult to reproduce. Aubusson tapestry has been recognised on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list since 2009. Galerie Sébastien Meunier shares its enthusiasm for this craft through its collection and related exhibitions. The works can be viewed by appointment at the gallery at 11bis, rue Drouot, in Paris.
