Established in 2003 by Pam and Steve Wilson, the Laughter Arts & Sciences Foundation (LASF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that aims to promote the benefits of laughter through various projects and programs. It all started after three years of World Laughter Tour programming, which revealed a need for financial resources among individuals wanting to promote laughter therapeutics. The foundation was inspired by the connections between laughter, art, and science.
At the first International Symposium on Laughter in 2003, Godlieve Smulders, an Amsterdam artist, showcased her laughter-themed artwork and music, sparking ideas and inspiration for LASF. One of the foundation's initiatives involves supporting 5th-grade teacher Debbie Davidson in her monthly visits with students to Bethany Nursing Home in Canton, Ohio. These visits foster a heartwarming connection between the children and seniors, benefiting both parties.
LASF helps fund the transportation costs for these trips, ensuring that budget constraints do not hinder the program's success. By providing encouragement grants, LASF enables individuals who lack financial resources to access courses, books, and materials related to the benefits of laughter. The foundation believes that laughter can have a profound impact on individuals' well-being and aims to spread this message through its initiatives.
