Landesbibliothek

The Landesbibliothek Oldenburg is a public academic and regional library serving northwest Lower Saxony. Founded in 1792 as an accessible educational institution, it remains open to everyone and provides a collection of around one million print and electronic resources across many subject areas. Visitors can search and manage materials through the ORBISplus online catalogue, borrow books, request interlibrary loans, and use study spaces and group rooms. The library also offers e-books, licensed databases, electronic journals, digitised collections, and access to other digital research tools.

A central part of its mission is documenting the history and culture of the Oldenburg region. It collects, preserves, and makes available publications about local places and people, alongside regional bibliographies, historical newspapers, manuscripts, personal papers, and rare books. The library supports research, learning, and teaching through information services, school and library programmes, exhibitions, talks, guided tours, and other events. Its services include reader registration, borrowing and returns, research assistance, and information about visiting and accessibility.
