Montpellier Institut du Sein (MIS) is a care and support organisation for women affected by breast cancer or at increased family risk. Founded in 2012, it guides women through every stage of their journey, from screening and diagnosis to treatment and life after treatment. Its approach brings together a network of healthcare professionals who coordinate personalised pathways and consider the person as well as the illness. The institute reports having supported more than 6,000 women, with 50 professionals involved in its network.
MIS integrates supportive care into the care pathway from the outset, tailoring services to each woman’s needs. These include nutrition, adapted physical activity, sexology, addiction support and cognitive rehabilitation, coordinated with medical teams to help manage the effects of cancer and treatment and preserve quality of life. The institute also created Cancer Je sein’plifie, a free regional therapeutic education programme for patients and their loved ones. It offers group workshops, personalised assessments and multidisciplinary support to help participants build skills and resources for living with cancer and beyond.
